Reimagining Bridal Fashion: The Vision Behind Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week
Each spring, the heart of Barcelona beats a little louder with the arrival of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week. Now one of the most influential events on the global bridal calendar, it brings together heritage houses, emerging voices, and industry leaders in a space energised by creativity, commerce, and emotion. At its helm is Albasarí Caro, whose vision has helped shape BBFW into more than a showcase—it is a platform for connection, innovation, and global perspective. We spoke with Albasarí about what makes BBFW unlike any other, the role of the city itself, and why supporting new talent is essential to the future of bridal fashion.

For those who may not be familiar, how would you describe the essence of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week? I’d describe it as a dynamic, ever-evolving event where bridal fashion intersects with creativity, business, and emotion. BBFW isn’t just a fashion week or a trade fair—it’s a space for discovery, connection, and international projection. It brings together iconic haute couture names, new voices in fashion, and independent labels that are actively shaping the future of the industry. It’s where tradition and innovation converge to offer a comprehensive view of what bridal fashion is today—and what it’s becoming.
Barcelona is such a distinct backdrop for bridal fashion. How does the city itself shape the spirit of the event? Barcelona is light, colour, and Mediterranean energy, and that essence infuses every corner of BBFW. The city has a strong, creative, and open identity that constantly inspires us to think differently and embrace a more emotional, contemporary approach to fashion. Its rich cultural and artistic landscape provides a unique backdrop that pushes the event to break new ground year after year.
What inspired the creation of BBFW? Was there a personal connection to the bridal world, or did something else draw you in? The BBFW project drew me in instantly—already an established event with nearly 30 years of history—its potential as a convergence point for creativity, business, and global influence enthralled me. I saw, and still see, a platform capable of driving real impact and transformation, both in terms of design and market dynamics. My professional background is deeply rooted in the bridal universe. I spent years working in the fashion and accessories industry, and I led international franchise expansion at Pronovias for nearly a decade. So yes, there’s a strong personal and professional bond. On a personal level, my years working with bridal retailers and brides themselves were above all enriching and foundational. Having a window into this important and transitional moment for so many women in so many different countries has taught me the power of empathy, of humility, and of remaining grounded and grateful. Now, in my role as Director of BBFW, I’m able to experience this very empowering industry on a grand scale.
BBFW 2025 was the biggest edition to date. What were the key decisions or strategies that enabled this growth? Listening has been essential—listening to brands, buyers, and the real needs of the industry. We committed to a concept that blends commercial value with immersive, experiential elements. We strengthened our hosted buyers program, worked closely with designers and international stakeholders, and paid attention to every detail to ensure the event remained relevant on every level. Striking the right balance between quality and scale has been our guiding principle.
How do you balance honoUring traditional bridal fashion with pushing the envelope each season? Bridal fashion has its own language, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t evolve. For me, respect and innovation go hand in hand. We deeply value craftsmanship and excellence, but we also embrace new narratives and bold, boundary-pushing proposals. That balance comes not only from listening to the market, but also from observing how women today express their identity through what is often the most meaningful dress of their lives.
What do you think makes BBFW distinct from other global bridal weeks in New York, Milan, or London? The format is one of our biggest differentiators. By combining fashion shows with a commercial trade show in the same space and at the same time, we create a unique synergy between creativity and business. And then there’s Barcelona—undeniably a city with its own magnetism. BBFW channels that spirit with a distinct identity: warm, emotional, global. We don’t replicate other cities’ models; instead, we’ve built our own, rooted in our values and our way of doing things.
How do you choose which designers or houses to invite? Is there a curatorial philosophy behind the selection? Absolutely. We have a clear curatorial vision. We strive for a balance between established fashion houses and emerging talent. We look for authenticity, a strong creative vision, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the event’s overall narrative. Our dedicated team evaluates each designer and collection with a focus on diversity, quality, and alignment with our core value of offering a 360º experience to our buyers.
BBFW is known for uplifting new voices in design. Why is this important to you, and what do you look for in emerging talent? Because the future is built on new perspectives. Supporting emerging talent isn’t just a responsibility—it’s an opportunity. I look for authenticity, a distinct personal voice, and the ability to engage in meaningful dialogue with the market. At BBFW, we aim to be that first major platform for independent brands and ateliers ready to take the leap into international expansion.
What would you want someone walking away from BBFW to feel—whether they are a designer, buyer, or simply dreaming? I hope they leave inspired. I want them to feel they’ve experienced something meaningful—that something sparked new ideas, connections, or opportunities. BBFW should be a place where things begin: collaborations, emotions, new paths. Whether you’re a designer, a buyer, or someone dreaming of your wedding day, I want you to walk away believing that anything is possible.
What’s your vision for the future of BBFW over the next five to ten years? My vision is for BBFW to continue leading the global bridal and special occasion fashion industry—but on our own terms: through a model that’s sustainable, creative, and inclusive. I want the project to grow as a cross-disciplinary reference point, capable of inspiring not only the bridal world but also the broader fashion and design industries. After all, many of the brands we showcase also present collections for eveningwear, special occasions, and red-carpet moments. I want BBFW to remain a space where stories are told through beauty, design, the arts, and human connection.
